Brief History of Our Town
Points of Interest
Dorsey & Kiger Realtors was founded by Jeannette
Dorsey and the original name was J. Dorsey Real Estate.
The company announced its opening for business Wednesday,
March 25, 1959, with offices in Room 200 of the Monongahela
Building, 235 High Street, Morgantown, West Virginia.
During the first 10 years of its existence, the company
was small, having no more than five sales people. But
it always was among the top three companies in residential
sales.
On October 15, 1972, the company relocated its offices
to 244 Pleasant Street, its present location. During
the period 1972-79, the company doubled in both size
and production and began to offer commercial real estate
for sale as well as residential, appraisal services
and property management.
Vaughn L. Kiger joined the firm December 11, 1967, and
in 1973 was promoted to sales and office manager. David
H. Dorsey, son of Jeannette Dorsey, joined the firm
September 20,1974, and took over the advertising and
property management departments.
On December 31, 1978, Mrs. Dorsey retired from the
firm. Mr. Kiger became the president and Mr.Dorsey became
secretary & treasurer. On January 1, 1979, the firm
was renamed Dorsey & Kiger Inc. Realtors.
During the formative years, the company only specialized
in the selling of single family residences, residential
lots and land sales. The staff always was very small.
The company now offers services in residential and commercial
real estate, national relocation, property management,
residential and commercial appraising, financial counseling
and now has over 20 sales
agents.
The growth and development of Dorsey & Kiger has
been built on principles of professional service, product
knowledge, and the philosophy of satisfying the interests
and needs of the customers.
Dorsey & Kiger has a reputation of being a leader
in the real estate community. It was a cofounder of
the Greater Morgantown Multiple Listing Service, the
first company to have three presidents of the Morgantown
Board of Realtors, the first company to begin a concentrated
effort to have all sales agents complete the Graduate
Realtors Institute program at the University of Virginia
and the first company to have Certified Residential
Brokerage Management designation.
During the first three decades, Dorsey & Kiger has
become one of the largest, most respected and most productive
firms in Monongalia County. The qualifications and professional
conduct of Dorsey & Kiger agents have promoted significant
repeat business.
Dorsey & Kiger has enjoyed a long and prosperous
history marked by a dedication to service and professional
conduct. These traits have made it a leader in the real
estate profession in Monongalia County.
